Recommendations from Authors I Have Worked With

Marissa Finch, August 2, 2022: "Melissa is far and away the best proofreader I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Not only does she slay all those pesky little typos, she has a great eye for inconsistencies and will often point out areas where the action doesn’t make sense or could be confusing to readers. She makes my text cleaner and my books better — at this point, I wouldn’t want to publish a book without first having Melissa comb through it. She’s also very easy to work with; she’s clear about timelines and expectations, and she delivers what and when she says she will. I’d recommend her services without hesitation."

Glenna Mageau (aka Maggie Thom), Award-Winning Author – Fiction and Nonfiction, January 23, 2020: “I sent Melissa a few chapters, of my book Tainted Waters, to edit. I wanted to get a feel for her work and see if we could work together. She did the edits quickly and thoroughly. I liked what she had done so I sent her the whole book to edit. She was very thorough—checking grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure and posed questions where some things weren't clear and asked my preference, in a few instances, to do with spelling or punctuation. Again, she worked quickly and was very good about keeping me informed about her progress or if things came up. I am glad to have found Melissa and look forward to working with her in the future.”

Mike Donohue, September 10, 2019:
“I'm really happy to have found Melissa and her services. As an indie author, there are a lot of people out there trying to make a quick buck off writers. Melissa isn’t one of them. She is the real deal. She loves books and she loves helping writers. All of my books are better after being in Melissa’s hands.

“She knows the crime and thriller genre and, along with a stellar copy edit that helped sort out my grammar idiosyncrasies, wonky dialogue, punctuation, and oxford comma usage, she offered good insight into what was working and what wasn’t on the page.

“She did all of that quickly, professionally, affordably, and with patience for a writer that constantly uses that instead of who even if he knows better.”

William L. Myers, Jr., August 27, 2019: “I recently had the pleasure of working with Melissa Ammons on the fourth book of my Philadelphia Legal Series, which will be published by Thomas & Mercer in March of 2020.  Melissa very quickly copy-edited the 105,000-word manuscript and did a superb job. I will certainly hire her for my next novel.”

Manning Wolfe, August 26, 2019: “Melissa has been a great asset to my publishing team. She is efficient, cost effective, and pleasant to work with. She has found issues in manuscripts that I thought were error free, and goes beyond the minimum requirements of a copy edit. I recommend her wholeheartedly.”

Dan Friedman, July 17, 2019: “Melissa Ammons was one of my beta readers, and she did a great job finding a few mistakes I missed. She was very thorough and fast. Thank you Melissa!”

Bestselling Author Danielle Girard, April 8, 2019: "Melissa’s work is impeccable. Not only does she find typos and correct punctuation, she also has an eagle eye for the inconsistencies that happen when you write a book. I will use Melissa for every book I ever intend to publish. She’s invaluable in helping me make a great first impression to readers.”

Dennis Carstens, March 12, 2019: "Melissa did one book for me and did a prompt, professional job. It was one that I had done previously and she was able to find some things and make suggestions that were not found before. On the whole, I was quite pleased."

Nellie K. Neves, March 12, 2019: "I actually met Melissa through the non profit I work for, The Grit & Grace Foundation.  We needed silent auction items, and she made some donations. She learned that I had books, and she read a couple. She liked those and ordered my older set. She wrote to me later and very tactfully informed me that there were quite a few errors. I knew of one or two. I brushed it off, but she said if I would send her my word doc she would proof it for free. I really didn’t think she would find much. I had paid an expensive editor to do that job.

"She found easily 50 errors. That was sure humbling. There were more, but those were things that you learn while writing, such as EM dashes and what to do with spacing and how to space eclipses and such. In the beginning, she was new to tracking changes. I showed her a few things, and she picked up really quickly. I’ve been impressed with how fast she learns my style and what I like and how I want it set up.

"She says she’s slow, but I have had professional editors do less for more money and more time. My last manuscript I sent her to beta read I told her I didn’t need it back until May. She had it back in about a week.

"If I have direction, she takes it without being offended. She makes note on content, but mostly to tell me if she’s confused or lost by what I’ve  written. She doesn’t tell me how to fix it. I appreciate that. She’s new, yes, but I’ve been impressed by her work ethic and quality of work.

"I would definitely recommend her, especially over all the people I’ve worked with in the past, because now Melissa is fixing their work for me."
