The House on Foster Hill by Jaime Jo Wright Book Review

If you like dual timelines that have a distinct correlation between past characters and present-day characters, I highly recommend you give Ms. Wright a read. She is fast becoming one of my favorite authors writing in dual timelines and adding a bit of history.

In this tale, we meet Kaine Prescott. Kaine is trying to escape her past, her memories so when she sees a house for sale that is a “fixer-upper” she jumps at the opportunity. Plus, she finds out that this house is shrouded in mystery. She almost gives up. Kaine perseveres though, not letting the ghosts of the past scare her away.

She meets a new fellow, Grant, along with his mom, Joy, and Megan (Joy’s daughter). This family takes Kaine under their wings, so to speak, making Kaine not feel so alone. Of course, she has guilt of getting involved with Grant because she hasn’t really processed the loss of Danny, her husband, a tragedy.

Enter the past. Ivy Thorpe and the mystery surrounding her. Both Ivy and Kaine are trying to outrun their own ghosts.

There is such a correlation between Ivy and Joel’s story and Kaine and Grant’s story that made me keep turning the pages. Plus, the story itself as it unfolded kept my attention. I know I’ve said it before, but, to me, historical reads have to be interesting, not so mucked down in facts and figures. Ms. Wright has mastered that, coupled with dual timelines; it’s an art form. There is also a consistency to Ms. Wright’s writing that makes me look forward to reading more of her work.
