Paige Remington, a journalist trying to write a supremely great article to help her and her husband, Quinn, out of their financial struggles, has an opportunity for a trip of a lifetime … the story of a lifetime. She finds herself in South Africa. She finds herself tangled up with Spencer Crenshaw, who was not 100 percent honest with her from the start. She finds herself struggling with just exactly how she feels about Spencer, about Quinn. Her tangled emotions sometimes get the best of her, but she pushes on … all in the name of her article … her article about the illegal rhino horn trade.
She meets Mousa. She was totally wrong about her first
impressions about Mousa and Spencer’s relationship. Mousa calls Spencer Ubaba
which she thought meant something totally different than its true meaning. A
good chuckle for that scenario.
Paige finds herself captivated with what she is discovering
and can only imagine her article. She finds herself entangled with all sorts of
people she never would have met otherwise, some good, some bad, but the
experiences she had … again once in a lifetime for her journalistic, and personal,
sides.
The thing I liked about Paige – her inner turmoil, having
this opportunity but also worrying about what was going on back home in San
Francisco. She also learned something about herself, maybe not such a great
trait, but she learned it anyway. I liked the turning around of her stepson,
Hao, as I do believe people can change and he was young enough to learn that. I
wasn’t too keen on her husband Quinn, but what else could he have believed? I
liked the realism that their marriage was on the rocks. Personally, I don’t
know anything about the rhino trade subject, but I suspect that there was quite
a bit of research involved for this story and I appreciated how those facts
came through on these pages. I appreciate the fact that there are people in the
world fighting against the inhumane treatment of rhinos and how their horns are
harvested. And who knows? Maybe some day animals won’t have to suffer
needlessly for human greed.
I thought this was an intriguing story with all its many
facets.
