Since I read A River of Crows by the same author, I decided
to read her first book - Enemies of Doves. In this tale, we meet brothers
Clancy and Joel along with Lorraine. This is a very interesting tale of their
three lives. Lorraine befriended Joel which was unusual for Joel as folks
tended to overlook him. Unfortunately for Joel, Lorraine was more interested in
Clancy … kind of like good girl is attracted to bad boy. As I got deeper and
deeper into this story, I was wondering who Lorraine would ultimately pick as
it could have easily gone either way.
We are also introduced to Garrison, Molly, and Ray. Some
interesting characters of the present day. This is a tale told in dual
timelines, Joel, Clancy, and Lorraine’s youngers years … then fast-forward to
Garrison, Molly, and Ray. Garrison found out that he was related to the
Fitchetts (Joel and Clancy), which led him to meeting Molly, who was also very
much interested in the Fitchetts’ story for her own reasons.
There were many stories circulating around about the
Fitchetts - their past, what happened, the truth. And, wouldn’t you know it -
PLOT twist … a couple that I wasn’t expecting.
If you like dual timelines with the past melding into the present, and you’re not afraid to give new authors a shot, read this one. I highly commend Ms. Gluhm for taking on such a daunting task. I am quite certain it is not easy to write in dual timelines with overlapping stories of the past meeting the present. I am looking forward to following her writing career.
