Ava Coons is nothing but a campfire ghost story, or is she?
Some folks think they see her wandering the forest where she lost her family.
Present day - We are introduced to Arwen (Wren to her
friends and family), Troy, Eddie, Gary and Patty Markham (Eddie’s their son),
Wren’s father, Pippin (Wren’s brother), Ned, Mr. Sanderson, the police
officials, and oh-so-many more tiny backstories blended into the Ava Coons
mystery. And Hanny. I’m sure you’ll enjoy Hanny as much as I did.
What this story is about - a missing girl, Jasmine, and her
parents’ quest to find her.
Now, you may be thinking when is this girl going to be
found? Is she going to be found? Don’t give up! There will be a great big PLOT
TWIST when you least expect it followed by yet another PLOT TWIST.
There are some definite correlations between Ava and Noah
and Wren and Eddie. This is something that this author has become a master at,
as is evidenced by her other book The House on Foster Hill. Ava may not have
been the smartest girl of her time, but she has what we today call street
smarts. She was wise enough to know what the people of Tempter’s Creek were
trying to do to her, when all she wanted to do was remember. Enter Noah. Yeah,
there’s a story there between Ava and Noah, just like there’s a story between
Wren and Eddie. There is also some darkness lurking in the woods.
The Markham family gave Wren refuge when she didn’t want to
be in the Blythe home, her home. Gary and Patty treated Wren as their own.
You’ll have to read the book to really understand all the backstories
intertwined with one another.
The thing about historical reads, at least to me, is that they have to be interesting, they have to be engaging. Ms. Wright has nailed dual timelines, and I look forward to reading more of her books. She has a couple new ones coming out, too!
