I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and the depiction of
Ellice, as well as the other characters intermixed in Ellice’s story. It is,
however, sad to think that things like what happened to Ellice really happen in
today’s world.
Ellice, while a strong Black woman, found herself in quite
the pickle over what happened to Michael. There’s a backstory to Ellice and
Michael’s relationship that weaves this story together. The other characters
that you’ll find in this tale only help to enhance her story.
What I really enjoyed about this book is the writing style. While there is an underlying message, the author does not come across as pointing the finger, so to speak, or putting anyone at fault for the prejudices Ellice suffered. Rather, it seems that this book is based on experience and the message is very subtle. I will definitely read this author’s work in the future.
