I received a gifted copy and am providing a review.
Saffron Anders has just lost her grandmother, leaving her
alone in the only world that she has ever known. Off she goes to reunite with
her father who walked away from her a few years prior, not knowing what to
expect. Her father has a new wife and another daughter whom Saffron knew
nothing about. Her father was surprised to see her on his doorstep. He
immediately sends her to the local hotel, which coincidentally is owned by his
family … or rather, his wife’s family, who has quite a lot of pull in the local
area. Saffron’s father meets with her and, much to her surprise, has come up
with an elaborate plan to integrate her into his now family. The question is
why.
This story reminded me quite a lot of the first series I
ever read by V.C. Andrews, that of Flowers in The Attic, with the secrets held
onto by a family. The truth always reveals itself.
The Umbrella Lady is book one in this new series, with Out
of the Rain being book two (The Umbrella series). I don’t know if there will be
more books in this series, but I certainly hope so.
